Get the surpassable Beach Travel experience with these 20 beaches around the world.
Trying to narrow down the best beach travel in the world is not easy as one looks at it from a different perspective. All the beaches around the world are the best for me. Every beach is different. They can’t be ranked. I try to gather a list of beaches from the world that are worth seeing.
Beaches are so beautiful. Each one has its own beauty and history to tell. They are filled with activities and relaxation that make you feel like you are in heaven or a paradise.
What I share is only few glimpse of it. It is well worth to experience them with your own eyes. Even if I show you a thousand pictures they are less to describe the real beauty they hold. Which can only be seen live? All the beaches have different experiences based on what you do there makes it even more memorable than what I share with you here. Have a look and let me know which in your eye the best is?
All corners of our amazing planet, where wide public expanses flank the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, to the Southern Hemisphere, where more intimate and exotic sands await — has an embarrassment of beautiful beaches. That said, some are just a bit more memorable and much more photogenic than others. A few are world famous (featured in a songs, movies and even a diet) while others are unsung gems.
What unites them? That feeling of awe you get when you kick off your flip-flops, throw down your beach towel and think, “Now this is paradise.” Here is our list of the 21 beaches worth seeing in the world.
1. Eagle beach, Palm, eagle beach, Aruba:
Eagle Beach in Aruba is one of the most breathtaking beaches on the island. It is the widest beach in Aruba and famous for its pristine soft white sands. Eagle Beach offers a clear, sparkling Caribbean and a variety of motorized water sports and very gentle for surfing.
A few months per year Aruba Eagle Beach is dotted with red and white markers to protect turtle nests. The turtles hatch mostly around sunset and at night. Four species of sea turtles nest in Aruba – Leatherback, Loggerhead, Green, and Hawksbill. Turtles can have their nest anywhere on the island, however, most nests can be found on Eagle Beach in Aruba. Each nest contains some 80 eggs. Watching the hatchlings find their way to the ocean conquering the sand and waves is a unique vacation experience in Aruba.
Several of the Aruba low rise hotels are nearby and just across the road; some provide cabanas and lounges for their guests. Every year during Easter week in Aruba, tents dot the coastline as local families enjoy the tradition of camping out.
Eagle Beach is also home to two of the most photographed and renowned fofoti trees in Aruba, with its trademark silhouette pointing in the direction of the Caribbean. These trees have been starring in various Aruba advertising campaigns as unique and highly recognizable features. The trees are extremely popular to serve as a backdrop for wedding photo sessions and tourist snapshots of this pristine Aruba beach.
During weekends Aruba beach tennis fanatics play their tennis games in the powdery white sands of Eagle Beach. It’s great fun to watch and participate in this popular local sport.
2. Horseshoe Bay Beach, Bermuda:
From small children to senior citizens, its wide appeal makes Horseshoe Bay a must see when visiting Bermuda. With an adjacent kiddy beach and its low tide, Horseshoe is definitely a spot for the entire family.
The expansive horseshoe-shaped beach is bordered by natural limestone cliffs and large reefs where snorkellers can explore the large variety of fish and sea life. Not a fan of water activities? Go for a jog, play volleyball or just kick back on the sand. A beach volleyball competition takes place once a week in the summer months and is a regular activity for both tourists and locals alike.
The Bermuda Good Friday KiteFest is a great family event that takes place annually on Good Friday at Horseshoe Bay. The largest annual event in Bermuda also takes place at Horseshoe Bay on Emancipation Day (usually the last Wednesday night & Thursday in July or the first Wednesday night & Thursday in August) called The Bermuda Beachfest Emancipation Celebration.
Beachfest (as it is known) is an action-packed 2-day event full of live entertainment, beach sports, cultural traditions, activities and more, and attracts the largest cross-section of locals and visitors on the island.
3. Baia does Sancho, Fernando de Noronha, Brazil:
It is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. Geologically, it is the tip of a submarine volcanic formation which rises out of the deep seabed and consists of one main island and several rocks and islets. The rocks form many natural aquaria and the underwater life is diverse. Because the reefs of the South Atlantic are isolated from the Caribbean by the outflow of the Orinoco and Amazon rivers, the reef communities are very different with many endemic species.
Bathed by currents coming from Africa the waters around the islands are very clear with very good visibility even at 50 meters and have great year-round warm temperatures. Of course, you can also see the large “global” species such as manta rays, sharks, moray eels, goliath groupers, sea turtles, and dolphins. The island is also home to one of the largest seabird breeding colonies in the South Atlantic. Hench, very good for swimming and snorkeling.
Its pristine beaches, landscapes, and wildlife attract tourists worldwide.
Despite what several of the travel guide books say, snorkeling at Praia da Atalaia is no longer unrestricted, but you have to register at the ICMbio, near the Projeto Tamar. The pool can only be visited at low tide, the number of visitors is restricted to 100 per day. The tide pool itself is about 18-24 inches deep but contains a remarkable diversity of animals. Lobsters, octopuses and numerous fish species inhabit the pool and, if you are lucky, maybe a baby shark. The tidal pool is monitored by the government of the island. If you choose to go keep in mind a few things:
- Visitors are not allowed to wear suntan lotion as the oils from the lotion will pollute the tidal pool
- You are only allowed to stand or put your knees down in a small sandy area in the middle of the pool. If you are not a confident snorkeler (i.e. capable of floating on the top of the water) then do some practice at another beach before you go. They will remove you from the pool and you could be fined if you violate this rule.
- You will be limited to 25 minutes in the pool
As you walk through a small trail, you can’t imagine what awaits you. The heavenly view seems like a mirage.
There are also many different trails if you like to choose from, but some restrictions apply. Trails in the National Marine Reserve (Parnamar/FN) can only be visited with authorization and with accredited guides. Trails inside the Environment Preservation Area (Apa/FN) have free access.
After a long morning of diving and trekking, nothing beats a bowl of açaí (exotic sweet and fatty dark purple-colored Northern Brazilian fruit, usually eaten as a mashed pulp) with granola and bananas at the port.
Being a small island with limited water resources and a fragile ecosystem, there is a maximum number of 460 visitors allowed on the island. Visitors also pay an Environmental Preservation Tax that increases progressively with the length of the visit. The relative isolation from the mainland, the limits on visitors and the preservation make Fernando de Noronha an expensive destination. But the “happy few” will be well rewarded by the delights of this island paradise and its fascinating underwater world.
4. Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:
It is in the middle of a long sweeping crescent of sand, bordered at one end by Arpoador beach and on the other end of Leblon Beach. Here you will always find plenty of sports activities and beautiful people. The beach is more narrow here and the water is pretty rough. People spend most of their time in the sand, or in the surf in front of the crashing waves. Because this beach is becoming so popular, airlines compete to offer the cheapest flights into Rio de Janeiro from around the world every day.
There are fewer hotels and restaurants on the beach-front as you will find it is mostly lined with expensive condos, apartments, and higher-end hotels.
On Sundays, the boulevard on the beach side is closed to traffic, as hundreds of people of all ages walk, bike, skate, and run the length of the beach.
The surf is usually rough here and the water has strong currents. Ipanema is a native Indian word for “dangerous water”. People spend more time on the beach than in the water, and you should be careful where you swim and how far out you venture.
The sand is pale gold and the landmark emerald peaks you’ll find yourself gazing at for hours are known as “Two Brothers.”
The long beach is segmented every few hundred yards by Postos (lifeguard stations). These Posto are the most common landmarks on the beach and serve as a meeting place for locals and tourists. Each Posto has its own reputation for the kind of people who hang out there and for the level of beach activity.
Posto 9 is closer to Arpoador Beach and is known as the place where the young and beautiful hang out. Large groups of Brazilians congregate, gossip, and mostly flirt. The crowds tend to stay here pretty late partying and watch the sunset.
Further down at Posto 10, you will find the chic crowds of more affluent Brazilians and tourists who stay in the handful of expensive hotels on the beach or a block or two back.
This area is a constant hub of sports activities. Especially popular in Brazil are sand sports such as Beach soccer, Beach volleyball, beach foot volleyball, frisbee tossing, and a type of paddle ball. Brazilians are open to tourists joining in the games, but if you are a novice, it’s just as much fun to sit and watch. The beach foot volleyball is especially entertaining as 2 person teams battle it out in the sand over long volleys using only their heads, chest, legs, and feet!
5. One Foot Island, Aitutaki, Cook Islands
One Foot Island (Tapuaetai) is one of the most loveliest Motu (small islets) in Aitutaki lagoon, Cook islands. It is surrounded by beautiful glassy water and pure white sand. Aitutaki is most famous for is its large brilliant turquoise lagoon. The lagoon is many things: a place of legends, a vast source of inner reef seafood, and an island paradise where visitors can be taken to picnic on the Motu and snorkel among brightly colored tropical fish.
Of the 15 Motus, One-foot island is in the south-east corner of the Aitutaki lagoon, between Motu Tekpua on the northern side of the channel and Motukitiu, the most south-east Motu with its seabird nesting ground.
It is a heavenly place on Earth. Form the air, it has to be one of the most beautiful sights in the world, and is just stunning from the ground.
It is the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. There are many activities one can pursue; scuba diving, snorkeling, lagoon cruises, walkabouts or stroll through a village, interacting with the locals.
It is also world-renowned for kite surfing. At low tide, it is easy to wade from One Foot Island to the cay (vast white sandbar) to the west of One Foot Island. Coconut palm trees leaning out from a white sandy beach, over crystal clear water of the channel between One foot Island and Tekopua is worth seeing and feeling relaxed.
6. Playa Paraiso, Cayo Largo, Cuba
Playa Paraiso Beach is a gorgeous stretch of white sand that is set along the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. A major attraction on the island of Cayo Largo del Sur, it is connected to another fine beach – Playa Sirena. These beaches are roughly 0.6miles apart. One may easily walk between them when the tide is not full.
Playa Paraiso and Playa Sirena are part of a nature preserve, and thus they are maintained in a very natural state. Thus are one of the best beaches.
This sets up well for relaxation, and that’s what these beaches are all about. You won’t find any hotels on the sand, only small snack bars, and a modest nautical center. At Playa Sirena in particular, there are also restroom and showering facilities.
Playa Paraiso is sheltered and usually have calm water, and visitors who are interested can enjoy such non-motorized water sports activities as windsurfing and sailing. At Playa Paraiso, many visitors simply prefer wading in the water when they’re not kicking back and soaking up some Caribbean sun. It’s so shallow in parts that you can walk out hundreds of feet without submerging your upper half.
7. Siesta beach, siesta key, Florida
Unlike beaches elsewhere that are made up mostly of coral, Siesta Beach’s sand is 99% quartz. Even on the hottest days, the sand is so reflective that it feels cool underfoot. It’s estimated that the sand on Siesta Beach and Crescent Beach on Siesta Key is millions of years old, and started in the Appalachians and flowed down the rivers and was eventually deposited on the shores of Siesta Key.
Shallow water depth in the near shore area together with year round lifeguard protection makes this one of the safest beaches in the County and great for small children.
Siesta Key beach offers tennis and volleyball courts, shaded playground, and picnic area, and convenient concession stands for a quick bite or a refreshing drink. You can even borrow beach wheelchairs if you need help across the sand.
A number of public events are held on the beach throughout the year. Among the most popular is the Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sand Sculpting Competition. There is also the 4th of July fireworks as well as several volleyball competitions throughout the year.
You can enjoy fishing, boating, parasailing, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, or you can just dip your toes in the sand and enjoy a good book or the amazing view, but don’t forget to keep an eye out for those playful dolphins.
8. Pampelonne Beach – Saint-Tropez, France
Pampelonne Beach has 25 Beach clubs, big yachts and over 30,000 people in summer months. This mythic beach is the crown jewel. It has nearly 3 miles of fine, white sand separating the Mediterranean seas from acres of scrub-covered dunes.
Saint-Tropez’s most famous beach — put on the map by Bardot and her director husband Roger Vadim in the 1955 film And God Created Woman. Here you would find everything you expect on the French Riviera, from striped umbrellas and chaises to skimpy bikinis (tops are optional), are here in abundance, as are odes to access such as convertible sports cars, designer sunglasses and champagne on ice. If your wallet can handle it, go ahead and soak up some joie de vivre.
Pampelonne really is a true beach, glorious deep white sand stretches out into fabulous azure blue water that gently slopes away into the bay. There are no high buildings, apartment buildings, and even railway tracks surrounding Plage de Pampelonne. Looking back from the beach, one sees sand dunes and tasteful villas, almost hidden in the trees and the vineyards covering the gentle slopes up to the pretty hilltop village of Ramatuelle. It is a very special place, and even in July and August, one still has a sense of space unlike some of the other French Riviera beaches, where people really are packed in like sardines!
